The Department of Sociology advisors are available to help guide students in their selection of courses, and to ensure that students are fully aware of all the opportunities available to them in the sociological field of study. Sociology advisors may also approve course substitutions and help determine graduation credits.
Graduate student mentors are available for meetings with undergraduate students to discuss their work or questions undergraduate students might have about sociology as a discipline, graduate school, careers, etc. When considering a senior thesis topic, students may also find it helpful to meet with a graduate student specializing in that area of research.
If a student takes a course at another U.S. institution (e.g., a community college or another university) while enrolled at Northwestern, they may petition the Sociology Department to count this course for Northwestern credit.Back to top
