Professor in Sociology of Race and Ethnicity
Department of Sociology
Northwestern University

NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY’s Department of Sociology invites applications for a full-time, tenured, senior scholar in the area of the sociology of race and ethnicity, to begin in the Fall of 2019. The selected candidate will be appointed as the inaugural William and Cathy Osborn Professor, a named chair that focuses on domestic and global issues related to diversity, and will join a dynamic, top-ranked department with a proud history of producing cutting-edge race scholarship, and training graduate students who are highly successful in this field. We seek scholars who have distinguished themselves through their theoretical and empirical contributions to understanding race and ethnicity as social, cultural, and political categories of power, identity, organizing, and inequality in the U.S. and around the world. We welcome scholars who think about race comparatively across racial categories, historical time, and geographic space, and who explore how race intersects with other salient social categories. Successful candidates will also exhibit excellence in teaching and graduate training, and strong evidence of professional service and leadership.  Applicants should submit a cover letter, a complete curriculum vitae, and three exemplary publications. Letters of reference will be requested after initial review. To ensure full consideration, applicants should submit materials by October 22, 2018. Please submit all materials through the interface accessible at https://facultyrecruiting.northwestern.edu/apply/Mjg1. Address inquiries only to Murielle Harris (sociol@northwestern.edu).
