Biography

Tom Waidzunas, Ph.D., is Postdoctoral Fellow in the Science in Human Culture Program at Northwestern University and is a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Sociology. His research brings together approaches from the sociology of social movements, sexuality studies, and science studies, and he is generally interested in the construction of scientific knowledge of human sexuality in various domains. He recently earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego in Sociology and Science Studies, and his dissertation is titled “Drawing the Straight Line: Social Movements and Hierarchies of Evidence in Sexual Reorientation Therapy Debates.” He is currently working on extending this research to understand the ex-gay and gay rights movements as transnational networks in relation to the production of knowledge of sexual orientation within different national contexts. In sociology, he will be teaching the courses “Technology and Society,” and “Global Health and Transnational Social Movements.”
