Tom Durkin (PhD. U Chicago) is interested in crime, law, and the problem of order. His dissertation was on the comparative social constructions of law and legal activism in the US and UK. His earlier research was on prisons, and included jobs as a guard, administrator, and caseworker in the North Carolina and Kentucky prisons, and at a rehab facility in New York. He was also Associate Director of the Prison Privatization Study Project at the University of Florida. Tom also finds sociological import from other careers, including running a bar on Cape Cod and commercial deep sea fishing. Tom has taught policy, theory, and methods courses at Northwestern, South Carolina, and the University of Florida.
