Olivia Perlow (Ph.D. Howard University, expected May 2008) is a
Predoctoral Fellow in the Department of Sociology for the 2007-2008
academic year. Her dissertation examines factors influencing role
conflict among black police officers. Her areas of interest are broad,
ranging from top-down globalization to criminology. Social inequality is
at the center of her research efforts. Aside from her dissertation, she
is currently working on a book chapter based on her Master's thesis
related to patriotism among African Americans. Her future research
endeavors include the impact of colonialism on identity, vigilante
justice among police, experiences of students at black colleges, and the
impact of culture on health practices. Olivia has taught Criminology,
Introduction to Sociology, and Race and Ethnicity.
